* There is a limit to the number of people who can board a round trip (outbound). Please note that we may not be able to meet your request depending on the weather on the day and the water level of the river.

Information on the Hongo Kai route

Boarding begins at the famous Hongokai Pier, where Basho and Sora embarked .

The Hongokai wharf is located 8.5km upstream from the Furukuchi Funabansho, which is a regular ferry route.

All of our joint sea routes are chartered. Shared services are not permitted.

The haiku poet Matsuo Basho, who traveled the "Hosomichi of the Deep North," boarded a ship here and headed for Shonai. There is a statue of Basho and Sora and a monument bearing the haiku "Gathering the May showers, the Mogami River flows quickly."

Hachikotate

Built on the summit of Mt. Yamukiyama on the right bank of the Mogami River, Yamukidate is a medieval castle from the 1500s, a sturdy castle with double and triple moats built along the ridge. The high cliffs facing the Mogami River are a spectacular sight.

Yako Shrine (Yako Daimyojin) and Yakomaki

Yamuka Shrine was built in the early Heian period. It is recorded in the "Gikeiki" that Minamoto no Yoshitsune bowed down and prayed to this "Yamuka Daimyojin" on his way to Hiraizumi in Oshu. The water below the cliffs of Yamuka Shrine is Yamukamaki, which was said to be a difficult place for boats to navigate. It has been selected as one of the 50 cultural assets of the Mogami River.
